Hi Guys, bit of a introduction of myself. My name is Hamish and I’m from New Zealand, and I work as a agricultural diesel mechanic at a New Holland dealership. I have recently bought myself a 1977 fj40 in need of some work. It seems to have rust in the usual places and has had some dodgy repairs done in the past also. At some stage in its life it had a engine swap to a 3b and runs and drives ok. Plan is to strip all the paint repair the rust and repaint and get it back on the road. Things that need replacing along the way will be done also. Sorry if my blurbs are hard to follow, my written English is pretty rubbish. Here is a bunch of photos to start it off

Welcome to the forum!

If you don't have a website for an EPC (Electronic Parts Catalog), here is the one I use for my '77 FJ40: -> Toyota EPC <-

Welcome to Mud/Mad, Hamish!
You are at home now!

I concur with our mate from N. Carolina: your technical knoweledge and your helper can be the factors of a great restoration!

Depends what you are after. If nut and bolt restoration then tear it down. If you like the worn look, I would leave as it is. Looks great. Get it running reliably.

Hi Guys, been a while since I posted anything. I have been pretty busy with work towards the end of last year, but got a chance to do a heap of work over the Christmas break. I tore down the rest of the cab and removed it from chassis and then today had the tub sand blasted ready for repair and to see what I have. Overall seems in reasonable condition. Rear guards are looking worse for wear, but that was to be expected. Chassis is in great condition from what I can see, but it will still get a blast and then repaint. Engine, gearbox, t-case and diffs all need to be disassembled and resealed as they all leak out of just about every seal there is. Wiring loom is pretty bad and I’ll probably end up making a complete new loom, unless I can find a good second hand one, or a new one to fit to it. Here is a few photos of the progress. Any thoughts or tips always welcome!
