I am planning on ordering my Yaesu 2900 and Comet SSB-1 NMO on cyber Monday hoping for some sales. I am going to make my own bracket to fit the antenna where the AM/FM antenna is currently mounted infront of passenger door (I do not use this antenna and never will). Does the radio come with the coaxial cable to the antenna or do you have to order that separately? Also do I purchase the fitting that the NMO antenna screws into separately as well, or does that come with the antenna? I am ordering from HRO website and neither their site or the OEM website specifies what comes with the products. If I do order those items separately, which ones do I need? I only need about 4 feet of cable to get from radio to antenna mount.

you have to order a mount. the mount should come with a cable pre attached. like this- NMO mount
they don't all come with it, so look close. if you are making a thicker mount, you can get the "thick" version.

here's the thick one. this is what I have for a 1/4" steel mounting tab.
NMO thick

Exactly what I used for the home-made mount on my 40 and it is excellent. For the OP, be aware that you will have to solder a PL-259 connector on the other end to connect to your 2900, after you have ran the coax where you want it.

that's right. I forgot about that part. 1911 actually is the one that gave me all the info and why I got those parts.:D

Hey guys, you are all wrong. I know someone who is telling me that HAM stands for High Amplitude Modulation. Back in the day he could use his CB to talk to someone on the other side of the world. He would "spin" his signals off the clouds and could hear someone in Singapore. oh, he even thought Bill Gates invented the binary code to write Mircosoft programs? Oh, and old 40's with old supension never should track off the road. I can give out his number to anyone that wants that type of help. He knows everything.

You might check out Specialty Communications here in town for mounts and other bits and help in general.

LOL, sounds like a wealth of knowledge

Thanks for all the imput guys. At first im thinking "oh, $170 for a radio isnt bad, with antenna maybe a bit over $200", but add in all the little pieces to make it work and now looking at about $300 once all is said and done. Oh well, that's how everything goes. I dont regret the thousands I've spent so far, I know I will be pleased with this as well. Heres to hoping for a good Cyber Monday sale .

Still havent ordered a mobile yet, but I just passed my ham exam today. Took the General test too and missed by 2 questions... dont really have any interest beyond trail communications anyway.

woohoooo congrats Josh! i regret never looking at a general question before i took my tech, never even tried the general, sounds like you gave it a good run!

Passing the General Class exam will make you feel like you earned the license. Tech is way too easy.
