stuff does happen, boss was decent about it, not much we can do now but fix it. actually first major breakdown in 5 years that I've been on the crusher. The bigger the equipment you run the bigger the breakdowns! just raises our cost per ton crushed this year

Was there something you could do before it broke? Is that breakage caused by something the operator did, or just normal wear?

-Spike (Can't imagine what you could do wrong to a crusher...)

    tried to crush a non-rock

well we think this was the final straw, back when they first got this cone they tried to crush a 992 loader tooth. probably 10 years ago.

    What material

What material is that shaft made out of. I'd send it out for chemical analysis. It doesn't show alot of twisting from the picture.

What kind of crushing are you doing?

I worked at a foundry that made grate bars, bowls, mantles, jaws, screens, drop crosses and hammers for mills. I miss that job sometimes.

we take big rocks and make 'em into small ones! concrete and asphalt material mostly. some road base also

wouldn't be much rotational force as the shaft is solid mounted in the main frame and the mantle spins on it. more of a shear sideways force trying to force a big non rock thru.
