Ok I've been looking through the threads for quite some time, but I can't find a definitive answer on this.

Here are the part numbers I have found listed however I believe this was a earlier year FJ60 doing the swap.

33030-60450 -H55F
33124-36010-Oil Pipe (nipple)
33530-60160-Lever (shifter)
33504-14050-Knob
31210-60070-84-Clutch Cover
31250-36342-Disc Assembly
90363-52001-77-Throwout Bearing
90363-15004-Pilot Bearing
90311-99001-Rear Main Seal
33548-60020 Nylon bushing that goes on the bottom of H55 shifter

My question is this, I heard that 85-87 FJ60s don't require a lot of this. I looked at cruiserparts.net and saw the kit they offer at this link Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 FJ62 Parts For Sale

you'll see for $2595 I can get this

Brand new in the Toyota crate H55F transmission. FREE SHIPPING TO A COMMERCIAL ADDRESS!!!!! This also includes oiler pipe & bushing for keeping your current shifter. Direct bolt in 10/84 - 8/87.
$79 for installation seal & gasket kit.

On older vehicles; (what exactly does this mean on older vehicles???)
Transfer shifter set = $75 / Driveshaft set = $150) A new clutch kit = $199 any year. / Transfer Case $600

Upon calling them they said all I need is the $2595 transmission and it's a direct drop in, but from what I have read I need the oiler pipe and the shift lever at minimum.

Can anyone tell me what is needed to swap the 4 speed out to the 5 speed h55f?

Thanks, just trying to hash this all out so I can call the dealership because they said they'd sell me the h55f for $2300 plus tax, so I'm think that cruiserparts.net is the way to go since I have a commercial address and get free shipping.

You will need:

H55F
H55F specific shifter
Plastic bushing that goes on the bottom of the shifter
Oiler cup for front half of transfer case

There are a number of threads in this section describing the swap.

yeah I looked at all the threads, that's where I got all the parts numbers but there are no threads that specify years. I know the 85-87 have different stuff, bolt lengths, etc. According to cruiserparts the one they sell comes with "this also includes oiler pipe & bushing for keeping your current shifter. Direct bolt in 10/84 - 8/87."

So I just wanted to double check before I start dishing out the $$$

Not trying to rain on your parade but you may wanta search before ordering from Cruiserparts...... search & may let you know what I talking about.

Cruiserdan is a great supporter of Mud & the cruiser community!!!

My 02 cents.:D

If you're going to replace the clutch/PP You can use everything you've listed.

But I'd get an aftermarket Aisin Clutch - All Toyota ones are now reman (hence the -84 on the part #) You'll also save a few bux, too (same clutch as the OEM, btw.) But get the toyota TO bearing and perhaps a new hub, if yours is worn.

If you have an '87 FJ60 you won't need any additional bolts - all your stock ones will work and are the correct length.

And you know about tapping and capping the bolt hole in the transfer case ?

I'll check with him too and if he can give me a comparable price I'll go with him. I just saw this and I can get the shipping free, so that's a plus. Thanks

I actually got a lot of this information from your posts when you did your swap. Thanks for posting those, they were a lot of help. Yes I saw the write up on tapping and caping the bolt hole for the T Case. Shouldn't be an issue. I just wanted to make sure I have everything before I kick this ordering off. I can always get stuff later as I need it, but I hate to do that and wait on something halfway into it. I figure this way, I am rebuilding my 2F so it will be new and fresh, now I'll have a 5 speed, brand new tranny. She should be good for another 20 years.

Yup --

Good Luck.

Are you gonna rebuild the t'case while it's apart?

I swapped a V-8 at the same time I went to a yota 5 speed. I used Dan @ American Totyota. Trans came with oiler, shifter, knob and bushing. I just told Dan what was was going to do.

I think 86 and 87 setups are identical?

Yep, I'm sure the original has 250,000 miles on it with no rebuild

I'll have to look Dan up, anyone have a direct contact? I do believe the 86 and 87 are identical too.

do a google for American Toyota. To be more specific Dan included the parts I mentioned as part of the deal... he obviously knows what is needed.

I'm not aware of any other parts required....now if you are keeping the stock I-6, then it might make sense to swap out some other parts while you are doing this.

Please keep us updated on what you find out- current prices shipping info. I had heard American Toyota wouldn't ship the 5-speed any more.

I'm rebuilding my 2F so I'm going to redo the clutch, TO bearing, etc. while I have it out, as well as rebuild the T case.

I'll let you know what I find out. If I can't ship it I might just get the one from cruiserparts

Yes...in other thread.... I mentioned that American will not ship the transmission from their facility... the end user has to do this...which is not that hard to do. I used R&L truck line. Thats they way it was when I bought mine..things may have changed.

Ok well, looks like I'm going to go with cruiserparts then, I just don't have the time to try and arrange shipping when it's free to a commercial address. I'm in Canada and the FJ is in Georgia, so that means do what's easiest, even if it costs a few more bucks. Thanks for the info. I'll see if anything has changed first but I'm sure it's still the same way.

I purchased my H55F from James at Cruiserparts.net ; I also had him install the unit. He knows these transmissions and their cantankerousness when new. Frequently, they nee to be "massaged" to free them up to work smoothly. A great upgrade! You can go with the shifter handle you have, as I did. However, if I had to do it again I would have purchased the H55F specific shifter as it is bent to not interfere with plug-in's in the lighter power socket.

Thank you for the info. It's good to hear from other customers before you make the plunge

Basically this is what I decided. Cruiserparts.net had the best deal $2595 for the brand new unit $79 for the installation kit, and $200 for a new clutch kit. H55F transmission shipped to a commercial address for free! I checked with coolcruisers.com and they wanted between $300-500 to ship to a commercial address, so I figured even thought they have a "kit" it's better to order what I need and save the shipping. The unit from cruiserparts also included the oiler pipe and a bushing to maintain your stock shifter. I can live with it being close to the dash, however if anyone knows where I can by a bent 5 speed shifter or has one please let me know before I kick this thing off. I'll get some pictures when it arrives, and I'll post up a final price when I get the confirmation email. Thanks

If you use the 4 speed shifter you won't be able to put anything longer than an inch into the cigarette lighter.

Gawd, there are soooo many possible replies to that statement :D

But most of 'em would get me kicked to chat...
