As part of my resto I’m rebuilding my transmission and have gotten to the point where the output and input shafts are reinstalled. One question, though - should the output shaft bearing be able to move in and out between 1 and 2mm? If I push and pull on the shaft the bearing, which is installed firmly to the shaft, moves in and out of the case slightly. When it’s out it introduces play where the input shaft joins up with the output shaft. When it’s pushed in that play is gone.

I don’t recall whether it did this before I disassembled. I’m wondering if it’s normal and will go away upon installation of the tcase and other parts installed onto the output shaft.

I took the shafts out and reinstalled all parts again. Same things occurs.

Feedback appreciated.
