Can anyone tell me what tranny came in a 1983 or 84 BJ43? I'm looking for an H41 for my OM617 swap and have found one with a tranny/splitcase/ebrake off of a BJ43. The seller can't tell me what model tranny it is. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Dave it actualy comes from a European BJ45 from 1983/4/5 ?.There where several euro spec late BJ45's that came with the split case Ebrake while the 42 and 43 model for those same years came with split case but ebrake in the rear axle. Not sure what the difference is but always felt like the ones from those 45's had a different way of shifting and where geared stronger.....Just a hunch and feeling absolutely no facts sorry.

Hi all,

Just pull the top cover off the transmission and it will be obvious - the first gear in a H41 is huge, barely fits inside the tranny case.

Regards,

Alan

Well, the tranny won't work with my setup since the input splines are different with the B series diesels versus my gasser tranny.

For reference, here's how the gears look like in an H41.
