Hello all,

I have an 81 HJ47 with an H2. I just finished resealing the front of the motor but am having some issues getting it running again.

It’s starts fine and will run for approximately 5 seconds then I hear a relay clicking and the motor shuts down. It’s done this before but usually only once or maybe twice when the motor is cold. From my observation in the engine bay, the ECU seems to be forcing the shutdown when I hear the relay.

Timing gears are all in correct and I am getting fuel to all injectors

This is new territory for me and I’m trying to understand the relationship between that relay, which I’m assuming may have something to do with the glow plugs, and the ECU.

I’ve had the truck a year and so far have done injectors and glow plugs in November then I found this smallish oil leak and decided to reseal the front end. Motor was running fine before I started this last project.

Update: removed the rod connecting the EDIC to the injector pump. Runs fine with no issues.

So now what’s causing the EDIC to shut down the motor when it’s connected?

After further research down the rabbit hole of google it seems that the EDIC could be shutting off the motor due to lack of good oil pressure signal. I did remove the sender and reinstall so I’m thinking this is a possibility.

Ugh yeah.. definitely low oil pressure shutdown.. You may need to help the oil pump prime. I would recommend parking it facing downhill.. overfill the sump with an extra 2L or so and then lightly pressurize the sump with compressed air through the dipstick tube.. you absolutely need to confirm oil pressure.

Thanks! This makes sense. I can’t really get to a hill as it sits now but glad I know the issue!
