Rolled up next to this pimp ride today. Had a nice conversation with the couple from Qatar at the stop light. This is the intel I gathered: They weren't allowed to import a diesel, this was a 4.7L petrol. Cost for import was only the shipping... approx $5k. And there was a condition that they couldn't sell it for 3 years.

Is there anyway to bring a diesel into the US? Through Mexico perhaps? I'd give a lifetime no sell promise.

I don't think so. Now, you could import just the engine and do the conversion yourself, granted you still had the same VIN...

Conversions are costly. This company "dieseltoys.com" do them. They offer Tundra conversion for 32 grand + cost of vehicle. I would imagine 200 series can be done for similar price range.

Thats insane.

Do it yourself. Buy a wrecked diesel and import into the US.

Well Gents,
Allow me to further elaborate. You are looking at a Buraimi/Bahwan (GCC Dealer's Name) pre-face lift 200. Meaning it came with the pervious gen 2UZ-FE, this particular model also happens to be a 60th Anniversary Edition 200 which (for the GCC/Africa market) gets minor trim add ons like the chrome handles, large rear spoiler and some other small interior trim upgrades. At the time of its availability, you could only have a choice of 2 engines, the 4.0L V6 (1GRE) or the 4.7L V8(2UZ). It also has the previous 5 speed (not sure what code) but with manual select, the GXR's didn't get KDSS until after the facelift, but i could be wrong, B/B brings out so many combo's and variations i wouldn't be surprised what turns up. It's still friggin cool to see an Arabian Spec Cruiser overseas.:D
