Gday guys
Ive already posted this in the 80 section...but they tell me this is where to go, so youll have to bear with me.
Weve got a 1992 80 series lancruiser the 1hz deisel, owned since new, always looked after, oil and filter every 5000ks etc Recently she ha had no power whatsoever, weve changed nothing and cant explain the power drop.

So far, the it could be......
fuel filter
valve clearances,
injectors
air filter is clean, so not that

im not sure what else, but we are gonna keep her, and there is a turbo going on soon, but i want to fix the problem before that. With any luck itll be quite the beast ina coupla years.

She isnt our daily driver anymore so we can afford a bit more offroad oriented equipment. More lift, bigger wheels, lockers (early next year hopefully) turbo, etc.
:frown:

I take it you havent done the fuel filter, injectors or valve clearances.
I would do them 1st then maybe have the pump looked at as they dont wear as well as other diesel pumps
Its usually ok when its cold but as soon as it warms up it expands and you lose power, most noticably at highway speed.
Take it to someone like Total Fuel injection in Balcatta or Diesel Fuel Injection in ossie park.
They are both good with 1HZ
Maybe Ill see you at Wilbinga or Lancelin one day;)

i figured we could do the valve clearances and that ourselves, but if no change then those guys will be our next stop. Ill be looking for you on the dunes!!!! I be the one stuck probly lol

stone, if you meant does it blow smoke???
well no, occasionally under load, but very very little

Yeah...I'm not very familiar with the 1HZ, but I figure a diesel is a diesel, right? Theorizing that if there's lots of black smoke and no power, it's getting fuel and not being burned...so maybe compression is would be the problem in that case? But if there's not much smoke and there's no power, then I was wondering if fueling is the culprit. You've already taken care of the most obvious and easiest factor, a possible clogged fuel filter. You've also done the injectors...so the next on the list would be the fuel pump. Not offering an answer, because I don't know much about these engines...but I'm curious as well.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

The engine should be fine after only 180k kms, you can have the compression checked to be sure like wayne said, you can alos change the fuel filter and have the injectors serviced.

Did it lose power when you were driving one day or did you hop in it one morning and had no power?

Oh, and take your foot off the brake to mate:)

the brakes in the middle right??? oh so you have to take you foot OFF that????:flipoff2: nah, seriously though, the handbrake (ebrake woteva you above-the-equators folks are on about) is not sticking or catching. I figure its about time for injectors and valve clearance etc, so do what needs to be done anyway, then if that dont fix my probs, then the compression tests and the rest.

at 180k injectors can't hurt by being done. I found at 240k when I did my injectors for the first time it was quite noticeable. Nice fresh sound and better mileage.

If your not getting much black smoke it probably wont be the injectors but it wouldnt hurt to have them checked.
With a 180 k it shoudnt have bad compression so I guess you have a pump problem.
If thats the case maybe you could try a pusher pump. I dont see how it can help much but other 1HZ owners swear by them and claim it saved a costly pump rebuild.

Do that fuel filter 1st if its long overdue;)
