I am thinking that this is the rear driveshaft. I just put on new U Joints on the front driveshaft. This has been getting progressively worse happens at any speed turning or going straight. I stuck my phone out the window to record it while I was driving. :D

Sounds like something is bouncing around or blowing in the wind striking something else that's rotating??

yeh, i looked and nothing wrapped around either driveshaft

UPDATE: I pulled the rear driveshaft and drove around, noise is gone!!! he u-joints were very messed up, one was barely moving the other was very loose.

New Mr. T u joints in, noise gone. rumble gone at highway speeds too.

Glad it worked out. Got photos of the bad U-joint cups and bearings?

I didn't no. I had the auto shop at my school replace them and they discarded the old ones.

Sorry to bump an old thread again.

My 1997 with 227K was making a drive-line "jingling" noise while decelerating - same as the recording in post #1.

It sound festive, like Rudolph was attaching Santa Claus with Lucille (Negan's bat).

Here is how I diagnosed it:

Went to IH8MUD.com and searched "jingling".
Replaced U-joints - DONE

The audio recording sounded exactly like my truck. I love the interwebs. (Thanks Al Gore!)

Audio was EXACTLY MY JINGLING noise.

It was the rear differential dust cover/ cap. I believe it was pressed on originally, but had worked its way loose. Just put your hand on it and see if it spins, if so, there is your noise!!!

I am trying to upload the video, but if I can't upload it, the dust cap is forward facing and on the very front tip of the rear differential. Can't miss it. Good luck!

No U-Joints to replace and no cost to put some black silicone around it to reseal it (or just a tap spot weld in a couple places) will do the trick.
