Grinding noise from steering wheel

I don't have the magic fix for this but I can report that I pretty much just opened the plastic around the wheel and douched everything in silicone lube while turning. Don't get crazy with it but it will seep into all the nooks as your rotate the wheel. Worked for me, not sure if it will help others.

I took off my column covers and what I think is my clock spring is black, not white.

I grabbed a picture of where I lubed, and my sound is gone! So happy it was simple, and irritated at myself that I didn't try something earlier. It's been bothering me all winter. The red arrow is pointing at the ring/cover that turns over the stationary part, so I just squirted some dry silicone lube (for anybody not familiar, "dry" just means the carrier solvent evaporates and doesn't leave a wet oil behind) along that ring while turning the steering wheel lock to lock. Problem solved!

I wish that worked on mine!
