I contacted Mushro regarding a FJ40 on his website and afterwards did a search on his name and found this site. I then emailed him back and told him to cancel my inquiry due to a number of bad reviews I read on his business on a number of sites.
He both emailed and called me leaving a voice mail trying to clear his business by stating anyone posting on an open forum is basically a liar. Like others stated he did sound very friendly but I'll continue my search in other places.
This is my first post here and I'm looking for a ( save laughter ) 40 that's not a rust bucket that's been covered in whatever the coating most seem to have applied to the underside and interior floors.

Smart move... Did he call us "Fake news"? :hillbilly:
I have seen his work first hand and it ain't pretty. I think the typical scenario is that customers of Mushro wind up spending the equivalent of the purchase price in unf*cking his clowns' work.
Patience is key when finding the right cruiser. They are out there and you are in the right place.

Well-stated - now you know what to look for. To quote Horace Greeley - 'Go west, young man'....

I don't have enough words to say how bad my buying experience with Greg Mushro was. I'm still looking for a mechanic that can finally square away the garbage that he sent me. It has been a 15 year project. Bottom line, he ripped me off and sent me junk.

What did he sell you? Have you asked in any of the forums for mechanical advice?

Hey Rosco,
For starters, Greg said he was going to sell me a "frame off" restored 1975 FJ40. He said there was no rust or bondo and that he had a rebuilt chevy v8 to put into it. The money was sent and he said the project would take four months. At eight months and a bunch of excuses later, a told him I wanted my 20K dollars back. He refused. I had to threaten a law suit to get him to send me the FJ 40 and it still took him a couple of months. When it arrived, it did not even run. The engine was mounted poorly and wouldn't even turn over. The driveshaft was too long and had to be shortened. He had wooden blocks shimmed into the mounts for a jerry rigged "Lift".

Since then I have had the brakes and steering rebuilt. The engine had to be rebuilt. I have found rusted out holes in the body patched with bondo. The paint job he did was paper thin and sprayed over rust with no primer. None of the vent ducts were in tact. There was no weather stripping on the doors, just cheap foam.

Fortunately, over time I have corrected a lot of the problems with a local specialist. It has cost me another 20 K at least. I am still working bugs out and have a thread going in the fj40 tech forum called "Restomod questions for '75 FJ40". My few remaining issues have been put out to the group and I have gotten a lot of great responses.

I will fix this situation sooner or later.

Just be warned about Mushro... he is a crook.

I consigned a 1970 Fj40 with Greg spring of 2018 this was my first Cruiser build and it was a little over the top a little to nice to wheel I showed it in many indoor shows and always received 1st place in my class again it was too nice for me to even bring myself to drive I only put about 150 miles on it the LS motor really brought it down in value with the purists and Greg told me it was flashy and personalized and it would be a hard sell. Well it it was almost fall when Greg got back to me with a offer of course I was desperate for the money to start my Cruiser restoration shop and in the meantime I started reading the forums on here about him and started getting scared. I settled on a measly $48k of course the market started going soft with all the South American imports and I had a unique build. Reluctant and scared about what I had read on the forums I wondered how this would work out. I signed my pink slip took a picture of it with my phone within an hour he PayPaled me the money I next day aired him the title. Greig then paid me to do several upgrades for his customer he paid me $5000 to put a vintage AC unit in it and he sent a truck. Greig was extremely pleasant to work with and I understand people of had bad experiences with him but honestly whenever I have a question about a personal build that I assume I will sell eventually or need advice on something cutting edge for the industry I run it by Greig and he always takes the time out of his day to give me advice . Peoples businesses grow and different experiences shape individuals and I can’t speak for your anyone else’s experience but this is mine and I wouldn’t hesitate to work with him again.

Can you post pictures of your truck you sold? I'm glad you had a good experience with him. You are definitely in the minority. Your post is difficult to read. Punctuation and paragraphs would help people take you seriously.
Question, why would he pay you to install A/C when he has a shop to do that?

So, no pictures or answers to my questions? Seems fishy now.

Sorry for my post I’m use to talking in bullet points I have dyslexia. Greg wanted me to do the a/c because he said I Knew my way around the vehicle. I read the post about him during the transaction and it had me worried this 40 was my baby but everything went very well. Greg told me he had some difficult builds and that is why the negative press I have heard that about all of the big shops. I would do business with him without hesitation in the future. In my own experience you have to make some judgment on character how you see it first hand that’s not always the case but for me with Greg it proved true.

Yeah, if you are selling that's one thing, buying is a whole other game.
He didn't get, and sustain, this reputation because everyone else is a liar.
He really screwed quite a few people, and, again I've seen his work 1st hand. It is some serious shyster sh!t.
Newspaper, window screen and Bondo in the rear wheel well of a 40 that he's selling for close to $40k? Come on, now. I won't even get into the fuel system shenanigans.
You have a nice 40 there, but the bezel is upside down. He probably knocked of $5k for that. ;)

did you change the front shackles around before selling it? they are on backwords.

That’s not an LS engine? Greg is a smooth talking crook who has taken a lot of money from a lot of people and misrepresented a lot of rigs. He has tried to buy a few of my trucks over the years, very nice and well spoken on the phone. I can see having a couple bad transactions over the years, but this guy is a known repeater over and over. He had to change his website? I do give him credit for surviving all these years, I bet he constantly has to look over his shoulder....

Yep. He is, and always has been, a crook (in my opinion) and takes advantage of the unknowing.

But for sure, no one in the Land Cruiser universe should do business with him.

Unfortunately, the folks with money and big dreams will keep him afloat. But it's bad business and tainted.
