It was a really good turn out: Ken, Dana, Alf, Austin, Chris (new guy in a 100 series), or course Peter and myself. It was one 100 series, two 80's and of course the 60's represented with three. Started out taking Brown's Canyon up and it was looking good until we hit a brand new green gate with ample parking. That wasn't there six months ago. We could have "driven" around but figured there was another path. So we went back down and went up through Canoga Ave under the frwy and started out from there. We saw plenty of cabins that had been burned down. Only the foundation and chimney remained of about a dozen of these cabins. We explored a few trails that basically went into equestrian trails. Then we found which may be the trail we wanted so we took it. My 60 was running flawlessly and handled everything fine. Its not terribly difficult but I would in no way take a car on that trail. No 4WD required really. Passed some hikers on the trail that looked pissed to see us there. From the looks of it they turned around when they saw us driving up trail. We took it right to the end...waiting for us was a heavy cable padlocked to a steel post. Worst part was that we were now staring at the green gate that we had to turn around on while on the other road. That was a huge

moment.
We took the trail back and explored one offshoot. I went back as far as I could until the trail became a horse trail into a narrow ravine. Decided to just find an actual trail to drive on, wasn't about to start making a new one.
Got gas, ate some grub and headed back because there was a woman on a horse that told us that there was in fact an open road going to the Nike Base but we needed to go to the Lone Oak. So we drove all the way to it. Turns out it was right near the greeen gate...again.
We took a careful look at the area using Google Maps satellite mode. Sure enough there is another trail that we can take. So happily we decided to keep looking on the map to see where it leads. Turns out...back to the green gate.

So we took off from there and decided to try the Kuener Trail that I remembered taking two years earlier. Denied again, its all private property with a huge white gate blocking all access. Drove around some more looking for any access to dirt. Found a small spot but the runs were really soft dirt, steep and were just dug by tractors possibly the day before. The 60 did fine going up hill but the soft stuff kept making me go sideways. And I was at too steep of an angle to be going sideways.
After that it was road closed everywhere we went.
Then we saw it.
A fire. Just over the area we JUST were. Crap, did maybe one of the catalytic converters get too hot and start a brush fire? Did the woman on the horse start it to blame us so that they could block all access? All sorts of conspiracy theories were going through our minds. But we all agreed on one thing...
AUSTIN DID IT!!!!!!
And why were we going to say he did it? Simple he left us at noon and didn't come back and he wasn't there to veto his name in case the fuzz came a knocking.
Of course our plan to rat out Austin wasn't going to be necessary. The fire was all the way in Sylmar, obviously none of us did it.
Unless Austin went to Sylmar to torch his neighbor's car
