for the first time ever in my employment history.

My new employer requires all new hires to be tested.

Anyone have this sort of thing regularly?

Good thing I didn't go on my typical Monday night crank fueled bender.

Not regularly, but I was tested as a condition of hire for this job some four years ago. I chose the right week to quit using amphetamines.

When I used to work for a beer distributorship, I was one of the designated pissers. DOT requires "Random" tests fleets.

Funny 3 of us got called 6 months in a row.....

I've agreed to be willing to take them a few times, but only had to take one prior to gaining employment.

Are they testing for the presence or absence of drugs?

If it's a bong manufacturer you'd better start rolling!

I've gotten UA'ed once in my 11 years with the FS. Strange, but I've been thru Level II Law Enforcement training where they did a background check, but no UA. It took becoming a blaster to get UA'ed. Maybe something about using explosives.........I'm not sure.

I work in a Hospital administering anesthesia as a Nurse Anesthetist. I have never been tested as a condition of employment. I was tested once couple of months ago, when someone stole my Narcotics lock box. Amazingly I was suspect number one. The only way I was absolved was by pissing clean. What a crock, I wasn't even working when it went missing. Other than this one incident, I have never been tested for any of my Anesthesia positions. when I was a regular RN however I was tested everytime I changed positions. I am finding that the lower on the totem pole you are, the more likely you are to get tested. Go figure.

I have had a job where I get tested regularly for the last 22 years. I was in the military for 14 years and now work for an airline that tests. I don't mind. I sewed all my oats at an early age!

i do alot of work up in the oilsands in alberta, and all industrial sites require pre access drug and alcohol screening. they also do post incident testing as well. so if there is an accident or somethnig they have the right to test anyone in the immediate area.

I am going tomorrow for my test. I have been tested three times throughout the years. My last employer did the hair follicle test. It amazes me how many people think they can "cheat" on those tests. Hair follicle testing is crazy accurate, which is good.

'Crank' must have a different meaning around here. Either way, good thing you didn't!

Easy there Red.:flipoff2: Diversion as it is called, is extremely common in hospital settings and there are tons of safeguards to prevent it. An anesthetic lock box is full of all the best, pure, and legal narcotics on the planet. Nurses have the highest incidence of diversion, but over the years I know of 2 physicians who were caught in my hospital. One overdosed and died at the hospital, the other was eventaully fired. It is a funny business for sure.

The newer drug dispensing systems like Pyxis make it much more difficult to divert the narcotics, but even so, we recently caught an ER nurse who was very cleverly signing the drugs out of the pixis machine, then "wasteing" the excess(which must be observed and signed for by another nurse). It turns out she was "wasting" saline. It took real detective work to catch up with her.

nilepoc-look at it this way, with one test, you went from suspect #1 to off the list. That's not a bad deal. "An honest man has nothing to fear from the truth."
