I realized all this time, I've been cruising around in winter tires, good winter tires nonetheless but I want to save them for the winter itself, they're wearing down pretty quickly on dry hot summer roads.

it's going to be used for just cruising around the city, so I don't need any massive tires for trails or anything. Preferably a quiet tire, I don't mind going narrower too which might yield better fuel economy.. Currently I'm using 31 X 10.5 R15

Does anyone have any suggestions?

EDIT: I also want to keep it around or under $400CDN. if that's possible

You could try some BFG A./T ,they are not too bad on the road.
If you really dont want them for offroad, maybe get some 15 inch car tyres

The problem with 15" rubber, is that there really are not many tires that suit what one typically needs in BC, on a daily driver L/C. Lots of mud tires, but they don't do well on pavement, or on ice. In the 16" size, there are quite a few different designs developed for pickin' up trucks that have reasonable performance and life. I've never been a big fan of BFG A/T's -they are a little noisy IMO, and the blocks are too big for snow and ice, and not open enough for mud, but I bought another set anyhow, because they are a better compromise than almost anything else in the 15" size. And they come in the size I need. Wish I could have gotten a Revo in 33x10.5.:crybaby:

The other problem is, you won't get a new set of 31.5x10.5's for $400 CDN! :doh:You might get a pair.

gee, all those poor cars running around every day in BC with 15" street tires...must suck...
LOL!!
there really isn't a great all around tire but he did say he didn't want to burn off his winter tires and it was mostly city driving...

Would car tires support the weight of the LC though?

I thought about something like this?

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...OWL&fromCompare1=yes&place=0&minSpeedRating=R

Probably not that one specifically but something cheap and works around the city. seems to have pretty good ratings for ride comfort and road noise.

Also, tirerack says the original tires were 235/75/15, it that different from 31 X 10.5, if so, would it through my speedo out of whack?

of course they will some of those old tanks outweigh a cruiser easily...

I have some geolanders at's They are 30 x 9.5 15's nice tires. I took them off when I went to 16 inch rims.

i am going to sell them. but I have not gotten my head around it yet. They only have about 4000-5000 kms on them.

If you can find a nice set of used 31's in the buy and sell go that route. It's a jeep size and those guys get 1 inch syndrome... always needing tires the next size bigger. Great deals on slightly used tires can be found in the 31 inch size. Shop the buy and sell man...

I'd look at yoko geolanders... or just H/T (highway terrain) 4x4 tyres. most tyres will have correct load rating.

if you can't get anything to suit, lookinto a dedicated commercial tyre like what comes out on Ford Transit van's from the factory or Mercedes Sprinters from the factory. Or what taxi's use.
