The men planned to pay the hitman $23,000 to have the girl raped then 'popped' in the stomach, eye and forehead AdvertisementAdvertisement August 24, 2006 - 4:54PM A Sydney father who wanted a hitman to kill his son's teenage rape victim will spend a maximum 14 years behind bars for the "cruel and barbaric'' murder plot. Chaouki Bou-Antoun, 51, was today jailed for a minimum 10 years for trying to have the 16-year-old girl murdered in 2003. The Lebanese-born father-of-five had been prepared to fund "the cruel and callous murder'' so the girl, known only as Rebecca, could not give evidence in his son's gang rape trial, NSW District Court judge Robert Sorby said. Rebecca was gang raped at North Bondi in Sydney's east in March 2003. Chaouki's son, Khater Bou-Antoun, 21, was arrested over the rape in May that year and told his cell-mate at Silverwater Jail he wanted to have the girl killed. In a recorded conversation with a hitman, who was really an undercover police officer, Khater Bou-Antoun said he wanted the girl raped before she was killed. "Then I want you to pop (shoot) her in the stomach, then pop her in the eye and the forehead,'' he told the undercover policeman. He said he wanted Rebecca shot in the stomach first to inflict lots of pain. The men planned to pay the "hitman'' $23,000 to rape and murder Rebecca. Chaouki Bou-Antoun paid a $3000 deposit to the undercover officer in December 2003, but claims he never intended to go through with the killing and was not going to pay the remaining balance of $20,000. "I'd no intention of giving him one more cent,'' the court was told. He claimed he was sorry and only went along with the plot initially because he was worried his son would be killed in jail. "He pushed me with this plan, he pushed me,'' the court was told he had said. But Judge Sorby said Chaouki Bou-Antoun was a mature man who did not try to stop the planned murder. "There was no evidence up to the payment of $3,000 that the offender ever told his son the plan was foolhardy and wrong,'' he told the court. He said the "cold-blooded'' murder plot of the "innocent sexual assault victim'' was motivated by the desire to stop her testifying. Chaouki Bou-Antoun, who pleaded guilty to soliciting a hitman, was sentenced to 14 years' jail and a non-parole period of 10 years. With time already served, he will be eligible for parole in December 2013. In May this year, Khater Bou-Antoun was jailed for at least 14 years for raping Rebecca and trying to have her killed.
