Was wondering what people's idea/standard of having "gone through" something (i.e. transmission, axles) is, and if there's a widely accepted understanding....or not?

No.
Just no.

It's a catchall BS phrase that I hear plenty & really translates to "I maybe looked at it to make sure nothing is grenaded" to "was fully rebuilt but I / my buddy did it, so no pretty receipt" - but may have legitimately been rebuilt.

It's different to all people so I ask - otherwise a communication mishap means you could be buying anything from scrap to stellar.

I always ask the follow-up of "tell me more" - if they want my $$ they have to make darn clear what I'm buying & let me judge what the price I value it at.
