Just ordered a steering box from Impex and got this "item is not for sale in Japan" message?

Any help appreciated cuz no refunds from Impex I might be eating $1300.

Wait, they don't refund your money even if they don't have the product? Maybe they don't take returns, but I can't imagine they could get away with just not shipping product. The Wits End business model tends to backfire.

If they don't offer a refund for product never shipped, that sounds like the sort of thing I'd dispute with a credit card company.

Thank you all I sent message to Impex see what happens. Kinda tough working Japan to English language.

I ordered from Impex cuz FAR cheaper and a parade of Mud users received the part. Guess I was last in line and no soup for me.

Here is the message I received:

Note that in case there will be no reply from you within five calendar days, the order will be cancelled, with the money you have paid for the order refunding to your balance.

^^Yes refunding to balance means a credit on your account not a refund. I think...
I agree, that's why I messaged them to clarify that I was expecting a refund not a credit.

Thank you just did the same. Wish I got the steering gearbox though. Story of my life = no love cheap.

So IMPEX is no longer a source for these gearboxes? They no longer sell them? I wonder why.

So I'm about to get the fire poured on me since this is Mud.... but...... are the OEM new boxes that much better than an aftermarket? I have two sources for "other than OEM" both are under $1,000. One I think was quoted at $600 and one was quoted at $880. Figure you could buy three gear boxes for the price of a new one (IE $2300 plus $150 pitman arm).

My truck is down and I have some planned events and I'm trying to figure out why I should order an expensive box from cruiserteq?

I paid $1,207.06 for a brand new OEM 105 Steering Box, not $2,300.
The 105 pitman was $56.
$1.25 for the pitman nut
$0.76 for the pitman washer

Shipping was $156.34

It was a deal while it lasted.

well those deals aren't available anymore. I was there, but my order was not fulfilled, so plan B.

If you're the one pulling the box and installing the new one you're probably competent to rebuild your current one with the updated shaft. I think I posted at the beginning of this thread but doing that yourself is just under $300.
I would've had mine pulled, rebuilt, and reinstalled in one night but I messed up and cut the teflon ring reinserting the piston. Didn't read the FSM that says to use a piston ring compressor to constrict it so it'll slide in smooth. This was my first time ever rebuilding a steering box and I'd do it again if needed. Granted it's only been 4 months/2k miles but no issues.
Used this video as a guide:

yep, I was competent until I wasn't... LOL

I followed that route, but unfortunately two things happened.

One, the teflon ring tore as I was sliding the power plunger back in!! As it was sliding into the second chamber, it caught an edge and tore. I need to buy an entire kit to get that one teflon ring.

After putting the original, used teflon ring back in and putting the box back together, one of the bolts snapped off!! Was torquing as per the FSM and it just twisted off.

So I was left with a decision, try to get the broken bolt back out, order another $200 + kit on top of the already sunk costs of ($200+ rebuild kit, and $88 in new bearings). Or, just get another box and go now with my day. Add to the fact that I am having a new motor put in and I haven't had the ability to enjoy my 80 for the entire summer, I'm ready to drive it! So I'm getting impatient.

Supposedly my steering box arrives tomorrow. No import duties yet.

I have to say I am impressed with IMPEX. I ordered a t-case bolt, among other parts, that was unavailable anywhere else. It is the only 97mm bolt on the t-case and mine has severe galvanic corrosion. It is like $1.50. They just informed me that it will be custom made and shipping will be delayed. Maybe I should have ordered a few dozen...lol

I also ordered bolts for my rear locker, unavailable elsewhere. That bolt is no longer available from Toyota, but Daihatsu has the same bolt, so they just switched to the Daihatsu version. Probably the same source makes the bolt for both manufacturers, just that Toyota no longer stocks it.

I paid under $90 for a toyota factory reseal kit out of Japan. Just in case you need a cheaper option.
