hi guys......i was wondering if it is very esay to install new glowplugs.

I think that is my prob . i thought it was batt so i got a tow truck to boost me and it would not start and i have been haveing problems starting at around -10 i have it pluged in and lower rad hose heater working but i had to get out propane heater and blow under the rig for about 20 min and it started thank goodness. Im guessing glow plugs and if they are simple i would do it my self but i have almost no knowledge when it comes do a diesel other than how the work ...........if there is anyone out there at them moment i would greatly appreciate any quick reply .......thanks

almost the same as changing a spark plug... except there is no gapping required...

Jack,

I just did mine last month. It's pretty easy - just remove the bus bar that connects the plugs by taking off the nuts on top of the plugs and the other nut/spacers that sit on top of the intake manifold. Just keep track of what order the spacers are in so you can put it back together. The plugs themselves just thread out. Thread the new ones in, re-attach the bus bar, and you're good.

I got my plugs through 4 Wheel Auto in Edmonton.

I think you'll find your truck starts much better when the glow is working properly. Before I replaced my plugs, I was starting hard even at +10C. Now it's starting for me down to -25.

Good luck.

thanks guys i was just in touch with dan at 4 wheel ....... what a good guy he is ..
said if that was not the prob call him back and we will go through some kind of trouble shooting ..............is sure is nice to have you guys out there...........there seems to be no one that is interested in dealing with this rig.

toy dealer in regina would not give me the time of day ...........i took the boch pat number that i got off the bord and they said that boch dose not use thouse numbers any more no help ....................praise be to 4 wheel auto and all thouse that take the time to help a fool...............thanks guys.

WARNING on glow plug replacement

Hello,

It is very IMPORTANT to know the arrangement of the nut, insulator, bus bar and wire connection. I burned my relay connection when i put them the wrong way and there was smoke from that wire when i tuned on the ignition. Take a picture of the current arrangement first before removing any part.

If u search for my previous posts, u will see how i solved it w/ pics. It is in the cylinder head replacement thread that i wrote.

PM me for any additional information.

The guys at 4Wheel Auto are great.

ALI.

Hi....
a suggestion before you start replacing parts

I just had a similar problem that ended up being quite an easy fix.
I used a digital volt meter and checked the voltage going to the glowplugs.
I had 12 volts on the first section of bus to ground and 0 volts on the buss connecting the glowplugs.
In short there are 2 busses on my 1984 3B diesel and the problem was a poor connection under a jumper strap that connects the 2 busses at the back glowplug next to the firewall. A little emery cloth and some contact grease and I had heat for ignition after that!

I am not familiar with your engine but just incase a quick voltage check after you turn the key on to where the glowplugs come on might confirm whether the glowplugs are bad or maybe another problem.

thanks guys .....im still trying to figure out what is what exactly, lol. first time deisel owner and first time look at 2l-te engine......i will go check out rummate81 pic and that will give me a much better idea .......thanks

i just have to say thanks rummate 81 .... your post on the head replacement was great .lots of work jsut filling me/ us in . thank you, great help. im not sure how to test the bus bar and glow plugs but i will figure it out

GLOW PLUG TEST:
1. remove the black metallic bar that connects all the glow plugs.
2. Have an electrical multimeter, switch it to the test continuity mode.( where it checks that the circuit is open or closed) for definition of the techy jargon, refer to wikipedia. it will increase your knowledge.
3. put the positive end of the meter wire on the top of the glow plug and the negative to ground. If u hear a continuous beep or light switching on, your glow plug is OK. if there is no response on the meter reader, that glow plug is toast.
4. check all of them this way.

if u have two or more than 2 that are faulty, change all of them at one time. keep the old good ones as spares.
hope that helps.
