Hey guys, ok - so I'm new at this diesel thing and I know how and why the glow plug system works, but diagnosing the problem is beyond me at this moment due to being uninformed.
I have a 24V 2H - when I start it in the morning (even at 35-40 deg F), it plummes smoke and stumbles unless I give it gas and pop the hand throttle to about 1000rpm at which point it takes about two minutes for the smoke to stop and about two minutes more to be ok to let it set back down to the regular 650ish idle that it sits at.
Now, I have no clue of the components of the glow plug system - I've read from other posts about hearing clicks (which I don't hear) and I can tell you that the dash light to the left of the steering wheel, when keyed-on, engine-off only stays lit for no more than six seconds and then shuts off...and doesn't come back on.
I find even in the warm New England nights we've been having - even up to 45 deg F - I have to plug it in to get a solid start in the morning w/o issue.
So, with all of this in mind - what do I do first? I have a test light and plenty of mechanical knowledge and ability...it's just all filled with gas engine stuff!
TIA - I really appreciate it.
