I have two masters and no valet key so I ordered one from the dealer. It's in and next Friday I'm going in to have it programed. The dealer is 80 miles away and I don't want to make the trip wasted. The dealer indicated that all they need is my LC and "one" of my master keys to program the valet key. Is this true?

sounds true...

I work for a Lexus dealer and I know that when someone needs to replace a key (master or valet), the service tech's do need the vehicle and (1) key to program the new key. Hope this helps..

Yep, my new LC didn't have a valet key in the glove box, so they ordered one and I had to take it in and for service. I didn't have an appointment and it took 1.5 hours in the service department to program the key... glad the dealer had a Starbucks and Subway on site.

The valet key is nice to have because it only works in the door and ignition... you can lock valuables in the glove box using the master and take it with you for those special moments when they lock your keys in the vehicle at the car wash, or when a valet attendant decides to rumage through the vehicle.

I also like the fact that the valet key is stronger then the masters and incase I break a master I always want to have 2 keys until I can get a new master made. Plus your points are right on!!!

I'd like a valet key as well. Anybody know the total cost of the key, cutting and programming?

Potentially stupid question here...
The valet key was missing from my ‘07 LC. I ordered a new blank from McGeorge.

Planning on having it cut by using my master key as a guide and going through the steps here to make it operational. The thought then occurred to me, if the valet key is cut to match the master key what prohibits the valet key from opening up the glovebox?

Edit: Had the new valet key cut (for free!) by my local Ace Hardware. It now works as intended in the doors and ignition but not in the glovebox. The only difference I can see is the master key (left) has more of a V shaped tip whereas the valet key (right) is squared off.
