So last year we talked about the needle ice, but this year it is frozen log snot (technical term 
). A large section of today’s route was gated, not sure if this is normal or government shutdown related. Due to the gates I decided to hike up to the Brawley Mountain lookout tower (just under 5 miles round trip) to get the blood flowing. Found my way to the Shallowford Bridge and grabbed a bite at the Iron Bridge Cafe.

Found where these road access dates are listed, which isn’t easy given the forest service maps. Roads closed 12/31 and reopen 3/17.
