I'm installing factory power steering on my 1982 BJ42. I've rounded up all the parts I need and have mounted most. The pump/reservoir setup was off a 70 series which means they are seperate from each other. When selecting a spot to remotely mount the reservoir, should it be above the pump? Does the fluid coming from the reservoir gravity feed to the pump or is the pressure in the system sufficient to deliver the fluid from the reservoir if the reservoir is mounted below the pump? Trying to figure out the best place to position the reservoir. I notice in pictures of 70 series, the reservoir looks to be mounted high on the firewall. Thanks for any help....Greg

I think you want it above the pump. At least, that's where it is on my hj60.

The reservoir DEFINATELY needs to be higher than the pump!:) The fluid relies on part gravity and part suction to get to the pump. The last thing you need is somewhere for air pockets to form in the hose. Air pockets in the system = airated fluid, which = steering problems. Like brake systems, no air = no problems:cheers::beer::beer:

Why?

If you're staying stock, then ok. If you want larger tires, then go with a Saginaw box in your system.

And, yes, the reservoir should be above your pump.

I thought factory PS system function fine up to 35" more than that, go with other options .. I'm running totaly rebuilded PS factory PS system in my HJ-60 with 37" and you see are on the limit ..
