Personally, with a H151, 4.11 and 35s is good, a H152 would be even better with the shorter first and decent overdrive. Agree with @SHREDwagon that with the turbo diesel being relatively simple to hop up, gears aren't worth it.

Yes, turbos, tuning, new exhaust, and an intercooler are going to do so much more for your truck than gears. However, for high quality parts, that setup is going to cost you quite a bit more than a set of gears. OP wanted a little better performance off the line, which gears should do.

If you have the cash, I agree with what y'all are saying.

I have a JDM 1990 HDJ81 with a manual 5 speed and factory 4.11's on 33 inch patagonias . It is geared too low for my liking on the highway, ton of grunt off road and rural pave. 35''s with stock 4.11''s would be perfect imo. Btw euro hdj manual trucks came with 3.7's apparently.

I used to have 5.29 and 35s as a daily no issues was great in the mountain passes on the highway!!! my setup with with stock exhaust and turbo.

couldn't be much happier after upgrading to 38s and turbo-back exhaust.
