What is the stock gear ratio on an 83' FJ60 with 2F & 4spd? I was told by the guy I got mine from it had 4:10 stock. Is this not correct? or is it correct? How do I tell ?, other than the old turn the axle & count the yoke rotations?

if it is stock then I believe it is 3.7 or 3.73....... could be wrong but if I was i wouldn't be looking for FJ62 axles

or lift one tire off the ground and spin it two revolutions and count how many times the drive shaft rotates (you should mark a chalk line on the drive shaft to keep track). Because you are leaving one wheel on the ground and not rotating, the differential gear will effectively be halved. If the drive shaft goes around less than four times for each two revolutions of the tire, then you have 3.73 gears, if it goes around more than four you have 4.11 (or 4.56 or 4.88 gears). However unless you have bigger tires (33" or larger), you probably don't have 4.56 or 4.88.

A trick that I've yet to use, but potentially could be helpful with the jack up a tire method is to tape a piece of string to the drive shaft at the line drawn on it. Then you can simply count how many wraps the string has at the line.

i like the way you think dude!

Wish it were my idea, but it isn't. Can't recall who told me about it, but it's worth filing for future ref that's for sure!

Cool. Thanks for the info.. I will do the turn & count method. I know the rear has an Ausie locker in it. Maybe I got lucky & they put in gears too.
