Is this the only spring that keeps the flap up or is there another one? I can't remember offhand and my FJ40 is not readily accessible...

The lower spring on the 76-84 controls the lower door and the upper controls the upper door.

Yeah, mine is almost toast. I was planning on taking some piano wire and wrapping around a piece of rod to mimic it. Doesn't seem like it would be that hard to get close. I made some lock pins for my cable lockers that way and it worked like a champ. But having a new one is nice too.

I've already voted yes, but to let you know, I would be in for 2. When it comes time to market these you might consider a 2 spring minimum at say $10. That way you can more readily cover your start up cost & most of us would just be thankful to have a source for the spring. We have a spare...give one to a friend etc.

Hi,

Sorry to be digging this thread, but have you done the springs?

I'll need one and definitely is an hard to find part.

Thanks in advance,

That part is available at SOR (Specter Off-Road). It might still be produced by Shane or whoever took over his operation after he flaked-out and stopped honoring his commitments, but it is available.

Anyone know where I can source a lower flap spring like the one in the above pic? Anyone know someone that can manufacture it? It seems like mission impossible trying to find this bad boy.

The later model heaters 1974-84 have a weak lower door spring that gets light rust and then either breaks or just bends and then falls out. This door is what gives you defrost when the closed possition and floor heat when open.

I have recieved 20 or so emails asking if I sell these springs and I dont as they are impossible to find. This is why I have about 10 heaters that are fully restored awaiting springs. So I sent out one sample and got an estimate back and about fell over on the price of $15 each, but as the volume went up the price plumited to $2.50 each if I did a run of 1,000. Not sure if I could ever sell 1,000 springs, but 500 I might tackle selling them alone or in my heater kits. Thats a little rich for me..........So the question is who would want or buy a spring for $5-8 each?

Of course they are exact size wire and plated so they will not rust.
Hello,
Do you have any of these springs for sale...I need at least 2
