Hi, On a fj62 what’s the Gates part no. For the heater hose on the control valve on the firewall that looks like a big question mark? Thanks, Mike

28466 is a 90º that I think you would want for connecting the heater valve to the fitting at the firewall for the heater core (if that inlet is a 16mm / 5/8").

If I'm correct, you're looking for the one that goes from the "side" connection on the heater valve to the heater pipe on the block (87245B in the picture, but shape-wise looks like 87246A)?

If yes, then you might still be able to get the OEM hose, P/N 87245-90A27

I believe the nipples there are 13mm (1/2"), so obviously you wouldn't want to use an alternative that's a 5/8" diameter.

For some reason my old notes indicate Gates 19038 as a cut down replacement. I’ve never tried the fitment but you might get a better perspective at O’Reilly Auto Parts who appears to stock the 19038.

Yes the one on the side of the valve, mines original which must have been made from great material.

Holy moly that thing lasted a good long time!

I replaced all of my hoses back in 2008 and am preparing to again for preventative maintenance. Unfortunately several OEM hoses are NLA but there are either OEM or Gates alternatives. @cruisermatt I know is working on a "full set" of what OEM there is still available and the viable alternatives. I'll be replacing the couple risky-looking ones I have for now and then hoping to hold out until he's got the full set available.

As always a BIG Thanks, I talked to Gates today and was pleased to find out all their hoses are American made.In all my cruisers many hoses are original most don’t appear to be at all old or spongy. Toyota made great hoses.

Oh buy the way it’s not leaking yet, but bulging

I’ve got 3 of the Gates 28466 hoses on mine since I bypassed the rear heater. About 6 years old. Been using Gates for 30 years.

By the way are you the same M Hanson requesting transmission hoses w me on FB?

I'll have to remember this for when I temporarily bypass my rear heater so I can remove and refurbish the lines (hoping they're salvageable).

I did notice you had a cap on there. I'd definitely go the HPS route if I was looking to bypass my rear heater permanently given how long the silicon parts last, but since this is hopefully no longer than just the summer months I plan to just use an inexpensive parts store cap.

You may have already found one, but if not, I just bought a new OEM question mark from toyotapartsdeal. Here’s the part number.

I’m replacing all of my hoses at the moment. Really struggling to get one of the ones that goes into the firewall off…

So Michael, it appears mblakec may have solved your heater hose issue…nice job mblakec! I’m curious though…did your Gates guy recommend a replacement for 87245-90A27? I noticed their byline as “driven by possibilities”!

Which firewall hose are you looking for? With my rear heater still in place, there's a 90º hose and a straight hose that come out of the firewall. I'd have to look to be sure, but I think one is 13mm ID and the other is 16mm ID (but they could both be 16mm ID). For the straight, there are plenty of straight OEM hoses that can be cut to length. For the 90º I would be shocked if there wasn't an OEM hose from another Toyota vehicle that would work, whether 13mm or 16mm.

I cut down the Gates one to get a ? Mark type hose. Fit perfectly. I like the fact their hoses are made in America. I don’t support communist junk.

Did yours actually say made in USA? The listing for their 28466 on Amazon says it's made in China.

Imagine doing all this business with the USSR back in the 70s and 80s.....

I talked to a Gates representative Chris who told me they are all made in America. But Amazon etc makes mistakes. I’ve ordered form Toyotaparts deal they have sent me incorrect items and they also owe me money which I can’t get back.

Gates 28466 looks like a CUT&BEND winner @ .625 (5/8”) I.D. Agree with your Gates buying approach based upon your prior experience. If you’re replacing your bulging OEM in the near future, send us a pic …I’d like to see an updated fitment…nice job!
