My wife wants to upgrade from her 88 4runner with a 22re 4 cylinder and 5 speed to an 80 series cruiser. What kind of gas milage do you get with the straight six in the 80 series?

3FE 80's get about 10-14.

1FZ 80's get about 12-16.
1FZ's are DOHC engines at 4.5L where as the 3FE's are 4.0L.

8-12 Blown o2's :crybaby:

Normally 10-14

91' FJ80

My 92 averages 12.5 city/hwy. I have squeezed out 16 on long hwy runs...

Yeah, come to think of it mine got that mileage when I ganked my buddy's K&N while he was rebuilding his 3FE.

Now with the dirty paper one (before I blew an o2) I got an average of 10 all around with a lot of city driving.

13-16.

16 mostly on highway.

How bigga tires does she like? I get 11.5 in town with the BFG 295's/

Whoa!! I must have been kidding myself. I was hoping for at least 18 mpg highway, she drives 80 miles per day to work and back. Heavy cruiser plus large six cylinder equals low mpg, but damn they are a good lookin ride. Where do I find a diesel rig? Maybe the FJcruiser will hit the 18 to 20 range. She also wants a manual transmission and that aint happening with the 80. Thanks for the response people

;p I just upgraded from an 87 4runner with the 22re to a 97 fzj80 - my gas mileage dropped from around 19 with the 4runner to 16 with the 80 - if you are considering the fjcruiser for a 2-3 mpg improvement simple math will tell you that the 80 is a better buy - unless you plan on driving it for 30+ years - for what you would pay for an fjcruiser you could but a used civic for commuting and an 80;p

My stock '93 gets 17.3 mpg on the highway, but I only drive 70mph.

We have 5 vehicles and I'm trying to reduce my inventory. 97 cavalier,87 4runner,76 fj 40, 94 toyota pu and 99 suzuki gsxr 600. Get rid of the bike, chevy and 4 runner for one daily driver, but you make a strong point about the value of a used purchase compared to a new ride that depreciates as you drive off the lot. I do tend to keep my cars for a long time, the pu was bought new and the 4 runner in 1996. Tough call to make but I have time.

dang, you could pay for the LC in insurance savings alone...

12-14
