The inducer motor on my furnace was starting to make a horrible noise. A service call to replace this ranges from $600 to $800. I found the motor on-line for $75 and replaced it myself. I had to disassemble the fan housing and in the process tore the gasket. I am starting to have second thoughts about this gasket and the possibility of leaking carbon monoxide. The furnace has been running all day and my CO detector reads 0. How critical is this seal? Am I being overly paranoid?

You can get plain gasket paper at most auto parts stores. Just cut out a new one.

It's not a huge deal. If you have seen the ones I've seen a small crack isn't a big deal. RTV will work just fine. The old inducer housings are prone to cracking. A lot of them were made out of a hi-temp plastic. One of the things to check when doing a furnace inspection. I see yours is metal. 600-800 is highway robbery. The most expensive inducer I've ever seen on a standard furnace was 250 tops.
