As I continuously try to create the perfect rack setup for my 100, I have amassed quite a few spare odd and ends. Last night I decided to try and make a Hi-Lift and shovel mount for my Gamiviti/Yakima Combo.

I had some extra towers and I figured that they could be bolted on to the existing towers and serve as a base for attaching a Hi-Lift. Here is what I came up with:

I am using a bungie cord to keep the base from rattling

I mounted the extra tower at an angle to better accommodate the jack base.

Sits off the rack and at a nice angle.

For the shovel I used one of the Megawarrior crossbar mounting brackets. I decided to u-bolt the basket on the crossbars in order to get a little extra clearance. I also found an extra buckle strap and drilled it so that I could run a Mighty Mount against it.

Looks loose but tightens up snugly against the basket. I wrapped some electricians gum tape around the contact area on the basket. I am a little worried that a branch could hit the release lever so I have a velcro strap holding it as well. Maybe if I mount the ratchet strap facing downwards?

Here is the finished product. I could have bought these mounts from Yakima but I don't plan on keeping this rack for very long so I just wanted to make due with materials available. Overall I am pleased with the results but there is a rattle coming off the Hi-Lift that is bugging the **** out of me!

Very nice. I have a whole box of misc. Yakima/Thule bits. I use them on everything but their intended racks.

I'm impressed with the load bars/hardware BTW. Looks top notch.

rack fits nicely. Let me know when you ditch your setup. I will be happy to take it off your hands.

Looks good.

Dumb question: What keeps someone from stealing your shovel and hi-lift?

Can't tell from the pics.

I might steal that idea of yours, but instead try and use the spare M.O.A.B. basket mounts I have since I did the "Rack Slam" on my setup to reduce drag and wind noise. :D

Will do.

Those should work. Look very similar to what I have.

Looks good.

Not living in South Central LA.... I can lock them up if I need to.
