OK, the fuseable link on my 60 leading from the Pos. on the battery terminal burned on the red FL wire which looks like it leads to the alternator. My battery has been slowly draining and finally went dead. When I tried to jump the battery thats when the red FL wire blew, my thinking it was a strain on a very dead battery. I had the alternator checked to see if it was the problem and it checked out OK, so now I'll have to do a multimeter check through everything.
My main Q. is what have people been using in place of a fuseable link, a circuit breaker or fuse holder?, and if so what amp for each wire thats connecting to the Positive terminal? If I stick with a fuseable link should I order from Toyota and pay $60, or am I right in knowing the red FL wire is an 18 gauge and green is 20 gauge and just make my own?

Thank for any advice and/or input.

Bookseeb,

It's been a while since I replaced my battery cables, but I got a set from urbanlandcruisers.com. The set came with new fusible links along with all the cables. I don't know if they sell just the fusible links, but their stuff seams like pretty good quality. You might try and give them a call and see what they can do for you. I know there was also a guy on ebay that was selling battery cables\his version of fusible links. At the time, they were more expensive then urbanlandcruisers stuff. I am not sure on wire guage for making your own. When I was messing with new cables I found a lot of posts on guys making thier own cables from welding cable suppy places. You might search some of those posts to see if fusible links were mentioned.

I made my own. Search and you'll find pics.

I remember paying something closer to $30 for my OEM fusable. Lots of stuff on the internet though about making your own.

Haven't decided how I'm going to address this issue on the FJ. After one fatigue failed on the CTD in BFE I used a large terminal strip with the various circuits attached to one side of the strip using bulk fusible link wire to jumper from power to each circuit. While I was at it I made up a spare for each size and attached them to a spare set of terminals on the strip.

I'd just do fuses.

Actually, I should say "I just need to do fuses." Right now I have a solid wire, and a fire extinguisher...
