Funny Smell...

Ok, so I just got my 40 up and running. I had baselined all the fluids prior to rebuilding it (body only, engine and all were good). Now when I drive at highway speeds (45-55 mph) it smells like gear oil. Any thoughts? I did search this AM but came up with nothing helpful

Things are getting up to operating temperature.

Does you rig have the EGR cooler on it and the rest of the emission items?


You axles and T-Case vents may be working.


I will have to double check but I thing the Transmission is vented through the shifter.

any leaks? I was thinking the transfer case dumping into the trans, but you'd see the signs of it all over underneath.

Did you paint anything? Could just be paint heating up and fumes from it.
