every once in a while when i shut the truck off i hear a boiling of "glug glug" noise. Today i noticed it sounded like it came from the rear of the truck. it dawned on me that it might be fuel pressure building in the tank from a bad charcoal canister. When i fuel the truck i get some wosh of pressure but nothing crazy or fuel poring out like some people describe with a bad canister. Any ideas? It does not bother me much. I might just let it ride unless it is something simple like a charcoal canister.

My guess is bad charcoal canister as well.

Charcoal Filter canister. Its even worse with dual tanks :crybaby:. You got 3 options. Buy OEM unit (expensive). Buy one from gm that is slightly larger. Or rebuild the original changing the charcoal inside. (some what difficult to open then to reseal)

Here is the charcoal that you can adapt from Auto Zone: VC-120

Yep. Charcoal canister. Swap it out soon or you will join the group that has replaced/repaired you fuel tank because it cracked on the top.

BTDT.

Any good instructions on rebuilding it?
Or better yet, can i just remove it?

I had a weird sound and smelled gas. So I replaced my gas cap. That fixed it for me.

I had similar issues lately and it was the canister filter. Autozone no longer has the vc-120. I found one for a Pontiac trans am that worked from oreillys, but they had to order it and only found 1 in their system. You don't need it if you don't have emissions/smog in your area. I ran with just the purge port plugged and a little online fuel filter in the end of the tank hose to keep junk from backing in there and everything ran great. But definitely unhook your charcoal filter soon, because like people are saying, you will eventually crack your tank.

yep, canister is bad f0r sure. Just pulled it and checked per FSM. Purge side will let you blow and suck ;) but tank hose pipe wont flow any air. Right now i am just going to plug the line going into the intake and vent the tank line. Not sure if i will rebuild the charcoal canister or just get rid of it. I already deleted my EGR and EVAP system and haven't had a code in 2 years. But i dont like to carelessly undo what MrT did with out really thinking about it.

If your low on coolant it will gurgle thru the heater core

I only started getting the gurgling and weird gas tank pressure after I installed the VC-120 CC. Have you taken off the gas cap when this happens? For me it is a strong positive pressure that leaves the tank for sometimes a few minutes. I've been planning on putting back my original CC but with the check valve removed like LandCruiserPhil did.

Curious if maybe replacing the cap would have any effect as @Proven said.

The front gurgling (coolant) was fixed by replacing my radiator cap.

Your VC 120 experience is contradictory to what I have read time and time again on this issue. I hope the problem you had is unique to your vehicle because I have a VC 120 waiting to go in.

@baldilocks ... Yep, I agree. However, I believe I recently saw someone else who had the same problem after replacing their OEM with the VC-120. I am positive that I had never had the high pressure gas tank (and the very strong gas smell) before I replaced the canister. It did however fix the "woosh" sound with my weekly gas fill-ups.

I did install the VC 120 on mine and I went from a pressurized tank to no pressure at all.

I had to replace my tank because it cracked from not venting. Although, mine was also frequently under vacuum as well. I'm pretty sure the tanks crack because they are cycling between V and P.

The first thing I did when I bought my truck 4 years ago was to replace the gas cap.
