Last weekend I drove my 91 FJ80 up to the mountains, roughly 8000 feet where we were.
The fuel tank was nearly full when we got there and I noticed a raw fuel smell so I checked the fuel cap which was tight but when I removed it constant vapor and some fuel spray came out.
I tightened it back and went up to the cannister which was where the smell most the most pronounced.
I removed the hose toward the rear of the cannister and raw fuel poured out.
I know I will need to replace the cannister but what caused this to happen ? Is there a valve that may be stuck or something else ?

Now the question is, will that Autozone part fit a 3FE?

The majority of the problems posted in these threads seem to be on later model 80s with the 1FZ-FE.
The CC line connections on the 3FE are vertical while the later models appear to be horizontal.
I would like to hear more from those with the 3FE that have this issue.

Yes it will. The canister is a bit larger in diameter which causes you to use slightly longer bolts that hold the "belt clamps" around it. Mine is on my 92 3FE and will be put to the test next month.

That is what I like to hear.

Will the original hoses fit ?
The OEM hoses are vertical and these are horizontal.

I don't imagine that would cause too much trouble, unless there were solid fittings involved...

Only problem I see is the hoses would not be long enough and would kink when attached horizontally.

I'd be willing to bet almost anything that won't happen.

Utilized existing hoses. Here's a pic. You'll notice I used backup nuts and locking nylon nuts on the outside. Didn't want to over tighten and damage the plastic canister.
