fuel pickup/return Q (1 Viewer)

i have a '77 FJ40. my new LT1 starved for fuel on a slight incline w/ 1/2 tank of fuel. before i make a reserve tank for it, i want to be sure i have the pickup conected to the correct line from the tank.

which line is pickup and which is the return?
i have heard something about the pre '73 being opposite from the post '73. iirc, i have a line in the side of the tank and one that goes under it from the rear. thanks.
