Its been about over a month since i registered on the forum.Its been great to see verious kinds of trucks people own ,their experiences and the info that is shared is wonderful.
I was wondering how many owners use their rigs as daily drivers and the kind of fuel mileage they get out of them and also how good they are on maintenance.
I drive my LCII everyday and i find the 3l is very economical for a car of its size.It gives about 11.5km perlitre of diesel.I figure i would get more on highway if i had a 5 speed manual(now 4 speed manual),which i am looking to convert in the future.
Got it with 107,000km on the clock and it now has 124,000...keeps on going with just regular oil changs.
My BJ70 is my daily driver. Most of my driving is urban commuting (stop-n-go traffic with limited opportinties for 55 mph travel). My normal performance is 23.3 mpg and I have seen a few tanks fulls hit 24.3 mpg. The turbo is set for a max of 10 psi boost (which I very rarely see unless I am on the highway) and the injector fuel volume adjustment is set for economy rather than maximizing performance. I don't know if this is typical, but this post may surface enough data to estimate what is typical performance.
Hi My LJ78 combined city and highway would average 27-28 mpg. It was an automatic any city driving was during rush hour stop and go in Vancouver. On the highway it did very well at 100- 110km/h wich is 60-67 miles per hour I could get mid 30 s. I had an OME 2.5" heavy lift ,heavy front for the factory AISIN winch so the front would not sag and ARB rear locker. It was one of the more capable Prados in the area. Also the driver knew a little how to OFFROAD! lol.
As for the BJ74 33" YOKO M/T 4" lift ARBs front and rear, and snorkel I average 24- 27 mpg.
note LJ78 mpg average was in the fall (dont have it anymore)
BJ74 mpg average is done now in Vancouver using #2 diesel (summer seasonal) fuel
Hi , you are in Calgary, it is probably sub-zero there. Calgary is running on #1 Diesel (winter grade) it has less power value or BTU compared to #2 Diesel (summer grade) you have an automatic that will rob a little power, plus super swampers aren't the most efficient tire out there. 18.5 mpg does seem a little low.
I am doing my average on half tank and km/s driven and coverting it to miles.
I only run the 33's when I'm wheeling. I run 29's for city/highway driving. I agree that 18.5 seems a little low, even with winter diesel. I ran a couple of cans of diesel purge (as directed) through the system, but it didn't help with milage whatsoever. New air filter didn't help either. I should also mention that the 18.5 MPG's that I'm currently getting is mostly highway averaging 105 KM/H. You say that you get your average "on half tank and km/s driven and converting it to miles". Hardly acurate stats, unless you've left something out.
Taking your request literally, this how I calculate my mpg's:
The truck odometer records km, so I convert km to mi. 1 km = 0.6215 mi which yields conversion factor of 1 = 0.6215 mi/km
I purchase fuel in gallons which requires no conversion to calculate mpg. I reset the trip odometer with every tank fill up, so I have the km's driven. So my method is
mpg = (km's driven) x (0.6215 mi/km) / (gallons at fill up)
