Two fuel lines come out of the top of the gas tank on my '82 FJ40. They connect to two lines on the frame that run to the engine. One goes to the fuel filter and on to the fuel pump. The other connects directly to the fuel pump.

Does it matter which one connects to which ? Can't find anything in the manual that tells.

    Thanks

Absolutely. One is the fuel line and the other is the vapor return. It is easy to tell which is which: Only one will produce fuel when you pull a vacuum on it.

On my 77 the fuel filter is closer to the tank almost under the battery. The Fuel Pup is in front of the oil filter, The libe to the filter would be shorter if you have the same setup

blow down them, the one that makes bubble sound in the tank is the fuel supply, other will just blow air. Easy stuff, LOL
