Fuel guage stoped working 1KZJ-71 Prado

Fuel guage stoped working, 1KZJ71-TE Prado.
Any simple safe way to check the guage and the sender unt.
With ignition on, guage stays in the empty position.

check the connection at the tank. I've had this get gummed up with dirt and other debris before. A quick run in with a wire brush helped me.

Update: went out next day, every thing is working just fine.
