I am working through a few things on my list while I have the transmission out of my 1981 BJ44. My fuel filler neck and hose were slightly out of alignment and I had a slow leak from the hose to tank attachment.

After looking at the connections I realized my filler neck has a support bracket that aligns with a threaded hole in the body. It doesn't line up nicely so I took a closer look today and realized there is another threaded hole. Am I missing a bracket that bolts to the body and then the filler neck bolts to the bracket? I didn't see one in the EPC for my truck.

If anyone could take a picture of the area that hasn't had their tank removed or has a system that is original it would help immensely. I would also like to confirm the orientation/clocking of the hose from neck to tank to make sure I am aligned properly to seat the hose and prevent leaks.

Thanks!

Thanks Matt! @ToyotaMatt

Did you keep the OEM hose after the repair, or find a suitable replacement?

here’s some pics. I know it looks huge compared to the stock one but it’s 2” ID and the filler neck and tank are 2”. The angle is pretty close. I have the stock one if I have to use it but the rubber is pretty hard after 40 yrs of service.

Awesome! Thanks so much! I need to drop my tank and when I do I want to make sure the filler system is as good as can be! I assume that hose can handle diesel?

That's awesome... I have a second one I scavenged off of a 1983 BJ42 but it has shrunk and is deformed like your own one. Ordering one tomorrow!

i installed NEW Marine grade BOAT hose USCG approoved stuff fuller next hose for a BOSTON WHALER meets TOYOTA OEM spec.s JIS Marine .standards .........fyi

I ordered the gates 24712 posted by @MOTOV8R but liked your use of the stainless T clamps too seal the hose. According to the interwebs, the gates is rated for all fuels including all legal biodiesel. Should be fine for regular diesel.
