Any body know where the fuel cut off solenoid is on the carb of an FJ60. My truck is cutting off like it's running out of gas or something. It's got a new fuel filter and a new gas pump but still shuts off. If i let it sit for few minutes it will start right up again. I asked an old cruiser guy i know and he said it may be the fuel solenoid.

If you got a picture of the thing please post it.

Thanks

It's the only electrical thing going to the carb. It is located on the firewall side near the manifold. Just trace the electrical wires to the carb. You should hear it click when turning the ignition over (I think).

If it starts and runs (idles) OK for a while then starts to stumble & die, it "could" also be float / needle-vale problems ( cleaning / adjustment).

On my 60, fuel solenoid is 'on top half' of carb.
Yes, you should be able to hear a subtle click click as ignition swtch is cycled from off-to-run ( if you trun quickly to 'start' you won't hear is for the starter-engine noise)

Well the other problem is that the gas gauge marks a full tank all the time so i have to fill it up and at about every 220 miles i refill the tank so i wont run out of gas since i don't know how much is it it. Do you think that may have anything to do with it? Also so is there a fuel filter in line somewhere other than the one in the engine bay.

man my cruiser must be running like crap if your getting 220 a tank and you think the carb is not working work. i fill mine up when it hits 175 and my guage works, i think.

The fuel cut solenoid is operated by the "emissions computer" so that may also be involved with your problem. This computer box is located behind one of the front seat kick panels (I can't remember which).

Holy Smoke Cheese!!!!!

I have spent the past three months trying to find an electrical problem in my FJ60, digging and testing and poking and prodding.....and what do you know...digging through old posts I found this....and BINGO....I just isolated my problem.

I have had a problem with an itermittant "click" and the seat belt light pops on and then the truck either dies if it is idling or start sputtering and coughing if driving. Then a "click" accompanied with the seat belt light and it is normal again.

Well, I won't go into too much detail, but I am 98% certain that I have the problem isolated to the emissions control cptr. Not sure if it needs to be replaced or there's wiring issue, but I am not confident enough to take it to the shop and tell them what to look for.

Man, I am sooooooo happy. I love this truck more than any any expensive vehicle I have ever owned, so solving this problem is a very good deal for me.

Cheers (I'd buy several rounds)!!!

Mike
