Not affiliated but I am currently on island. Looks like it may have the diff lock option.
Sometimes you can find one of these in AK or HI that doesn't have a premium price. Not the case here-$25K.

I messaged him and told him I’d take it but he’s ignoring me. Something is amiss

I talked to him earlier in the day. He said there's an overwhelming response to his ad for the car. Sounded like an honest guy

Makes sense, I didn’t realize he’d have so many hits being how he’s in Kona.

You should buy it😉

I bet it's sold by now. And my wife would cut me in my sleep if I did. She knows I want a sage 40th and she's okay with that. But if I get another that isn't my keeper she would flip out

I’m right there with you. My wife looked at me with a “wtf is wrong with you” look, but secretly I know she lusts for the cruiser too.

If he responds back to me, I am buying it.

Another reason I'd suspect for the seat wear is location. You can't drive far. So in 90k miles you're probably in and out far more often.

If a 90k mile car gets this kind of attention, I should get serious about selling mine with 113k miles (and great mods)... I’ve driven it 130 miles in 3 months. LOL

I texted him this morning and asked about the status. He replied with, "a Nike executive is wiring me money and will let you know if it falls through."

Here’s a picture of the dash the door tag and a Honu I saw yesterday here in Kona.

Update for those interested. I was in buying position and after reviewing the underside photos decided to pass. I had it inspected as well and know all the details.

The owner is a good guy and very easy to work with. He’s looking for an easy sale and the car is as advertised. It was stored outside for the majority of its life and here are some frame photos.

Hope it goes to a good home. The seller is very busy so don’t waste his time if you aren’t comfortable with this rust.

Thanks for posting additional photos. Are you the NIKE exec he told me about? The rust isn't that bad but $25K is too steep for me in the condition it is in.

Despite the crazy competition to acquire the dwindling supply of unmolested, pristine 80’s, I am pleased to see that the 80 community still continues to share information amongst enthusiasts about prospective acquisitions. I know I wouldn’t have been able to acquire my newest 80 in a quick timeline, and unseen in person, without another’s enthusiast’s help from Mud. Kudos guys. It’s a shame that environmental exposure has really wreaked havoc on this 80. I’d be a pass at $25k as well. It could be worth SO much more if in better condition. For me, it just has a lot of misses despite it’s low mileage.

Happy to help out other cruiserheads. I wouldn’t have found the rig if it wasn’t posted here first so I felt the same responsibility to share the info once I had it. I wish it was coming home with me but I also agree at $25k there are better trucks out there so my 80 search continues.

I was interested in the truck as well. The undercarriage looks ok and could be much worse, but it was the engine bay that drove me away. For those that are on the fence, it’s probably worth it if you have time on your hands. If not, you’re going to be spending a decent chunk of change to get this thing to be worth $45-50k. Also keep in mind that this truck is exceptionally rare being a locked, desert dune collectors edition. Wish I had the time to bring this truck to where it should be.

Engine doesn't look that bad to me. It's the rust that kills me. And you're right about how rare this baby is. It's interesting to me that two of the rarest 80s are here in Hawaii. I found one about 10 months ago with ~140K on the clock, 1997 CE triple locked, extreme rust and then this one.
