I bought the LG's from Home Cheapo...

Next step down from the steamers.

Nice machines... I shall report on how they work.

I will be waiting for a non biased detailed report as our kenmore w/d are pushing seven and I fully expect them to s*** the bed soon enough.

I will thank you promptly after I read your report.

Dude, you have a river in your backyard! What the hell do you need a washer for? Go find a big rock out there and go old school. And while your at it, go get a rope and tie it between two trees. Theres your dryer!

well, that was an idea...I could use steelhead-friendly soap.

BTW, saw your rig at the fiesta last weekend, looked around for you but no luck.

How were the festivities?

Fiesta was ok. Not like it was 20 yrs ago when you pretty much knew everybody there. They used to have a street dance at night w/ a live band. I think most of the people now are from wherever. Would have liked to introduced you to my wife. Im sure you probably had your cool kid with you. P.S. I saw your rig on another thread. Now I know what to look for. Nice setup btw.

The wife and I were walking through Sears and she mentioned wanting to replace our 17+ year old Maytags. She really liked the LG steam machines. Is it worth getting the extended warranties on these complex computer controlled machines?

We bought the kenmore steam washer and matching dryer a while back. We started havng a problem right away with the dryer not locking properly and starting. After a few attempts to repair it on warranty we returned it to osh and got a new one. After the warranty exp. we had a prob. w/ the washer. It was our fault for not using high effiency soap. The wife decided to buy an extended warrenty at that time.

Thanks. Been driving it around town for the last 5 days or so...surprised you have not seen me.

Unfortunately, I did not have the boy with me...I was on my little XR100 just taking a little putt around the area.

I bought the 4 year extention for mine, giving me 5 years of total coverage. only $100 per machine, worth it for me.

Im pretty sure I saw you today driving your rig. It stands out in a crowd, very nice. Hiwy 68 3.30 pm wed. heading west. Is your 100 street legal, not that it matters out here. I also have one of those. I think you got a good deal on your ext. coverage btw.

:hhmm:

I don't think that wasn't bacon...

just now saw this thread. i've got kenmore stackables, not even sure what models. don't say on the front. they are energy star rated. i run minimum of 2 loads a week, sometimes up to five. my water bill very rarely fluctuates, so i'm guessng water usage is minimal. very little deterg used. it takes over a year to go through one of the big tide bottles (with the little spout deal-e-o). i'm not kind to them...i've crammed old school sleeping bags in more than a few times. i often overload them. after seven years, the washer's just starting to make a strained bearing noise, but only when i overload it:D

:flipoff2:

don't mention it

:D

Remember, Maytag isn't what it used to be. It's owned by Whirlpool. The best thing they did, though, was drop the old Neptune design. Overpriced, poor cleaning, mold harboring, wrinkle causing, and reputedly break-down prone machines. (I have a set, no break-downs for me, yet, but I'm not impressed due to the other issues.) Maybe their current version of the Duet is okay.

I lived that Neptune Hell. Finally ditched that washer. Now have a Miele, which uses hardly any water, cleans the clothes far better and is built to last. With two little kids, we run three loads a day. Still using the Maytag drier.

Maytag, indeed, is not like the machines my parent and grandparents had. Yes they lasted forever, but were very inefficient and didn't clean as well as the new technology. Had a Commericial Model Maytag toploader which is basically the same old legacy machine of old, has four moving parts and is bulletproof. Didn't clean all that well though.

Don't know about all the competing new models, but Bosch and Miele are great machines. I'm biased though, I have a German wife !!

We finally broke down and to the LG steamer's. Home Cheapo had a sale and I think we got a good deal. I got an additional 10% off and 12 months free financing by taking out a credit card. In the end we walked out with them for under $1K each. I also got the 5 year warranty for $99 each.

I found a good home for my 17 year old Maytag's. I decided not to wait for the appliance clunker program They still worked fine and felt that they should be put to good use by someone in need.
