I've started rebuilding the front heater in my 74-40. I have 2 that I'm going to combine to get one good one. The ? is on the door inside the heater are the remnants of foam, I can understand needing it around the edges so it will seal up, but why on both sides of the whole flap?

I though that one side seals the bottom of the diverter for directing the hot air out the bottom of the heater, and that the other side sealed the flap to the inside of the heater box for the defrost position...

I could be all wet however.

May have been cheaper/easier for Toyota to coat the whole thing rather than cut out a shaped "gasket" type thing?
