Should I use some gasket sealant, oil or a smidge of grease when installing the front crankshaft seal on the front gear cover plate please?

I think it is up to you. I usually use a thin film of motor oil on the outside of the seal to help it press into the retainer, though some people like to use a smear of a silicone type sealant just to make sure it doesn't leak.
