My wife has been reporting squeal sounds while braking (2003 LC), i confirmed the sounds were from the front. I assumed brake wear indicators were the source and went for the front brake pad replacement job. What i found were some average worn front pads but no other hardware. There were no shims or clips, just the front pads. The retaining pins and wire retainers on the caliper were also present.

I only have the FSM for a 2002 model and this is where I found info suggesting that these other parts should be there. Is there a real difference between model years, did they simplify the design? I know the pads I removed were NOT factory, so I figure a 3rd party shop got a hold of it with the PO.

FWIW, I replaced the pads and the squeal went away. I just don't know if they are correct. Can someone clarify please?

Thanks!

The EPC shows that there are supposed to be shims under the pads. You can get just a "shim kit" from Toyota, it includes a packet of anti-squeal goop. P/N 04945-60010
