Hi,
I have the option to buy a front axle assy from a 1980 fj40. It has disk brakes. My 71 fj40 has drum brakes. Can I simply swap the entire axle assy? Are there any pitfals to doing this as opposed to finding a toy truck and swaping the disk brakes parts?
Thanks,
MIke

Essentially it would be the same thing.
However.
the 1980 would be 3.73 R+p whereas your 71 is 4.11 so you would havbe to swap thirds (more work)....

Honestly, if youy can get the minitruck parts cheaper that's the better way to go.

the LC axle will have vented rotors and bigger calipers than the mini truck stuff. You will have to remove the entire knuckle to swap 3rd members so you might as well just swap everything from the axle bell out and keep your 4.11 3rd in the truck.
