Sanded the JB weld with 180 grit by hand (with block) and then shot 2 part epoxy paint (southern poly).

Like my painting shoes????

Letting it dry now. Looks really nice and smooth.

I decided to not shoot it with John deere Blitz black like the rest of the pieces.

Oh, somewhere along the way, got a huge box of goodies from Dan. Thanks.

While I was waiting for all the JB to dry, I sandblasted all the rest of the axle parts and blew primer and Blitz black on them.

Got them all cleaned up and ready for reassembly

decided to pull the third

Noticed a small leak on the front axle center member, so pulled it.

The gasket surface was pretty bad. Cleaned it all up. Went ahead and cleaned entire interior of axle housing. Can you see through now????


Anything I should check on it while it is out? First time pulling one of these out.

Total length from tip to the carrier. 247.6mm

diameter of the antilock brake gears 84.14 accross two teeth

witdth of antilock piece 11.45

diameter of the bearing surface interior by the antilock teeth thing 33.45mm

diameter at outside teeth 32.47

width of depth from the antilock ring to innermost birf 69.38

width of birf from flat part to flat part 100.49

Put in the marlin heavy duty inner seals, new bearings and moly'd up the birfs really good.

For those of you looking close, yes I replace the hardware bolts and nuts (from Toyota) on the upper and lower mounts only because the sandblaster shot them and I did not want to have to paint them up. They were in fine condition, just no rust protection now. Replaced one stud because it backed out on me and stock do not have the star head to be able to set them in good. All of the studs looked fine.

Forgot to take a picture of it, but I was looking at a home improvement magazine and they were showing a guy using a hammer to push the caulk out of a tube when you forgot your tube gun. Gave me an idea to take a piece of wood, put a piece of plastic on it and use it to push the grease out of a grease tube. Worked great!

Especially worked on packing the birf. Just put the open end tight to the open middle, pressed down on my plunger and packed and pushed the grease through the birf! Pretty cool.

Finally got the one side of the birfs slid in and it fit fine.

Waiting on a smaller shim from Toyota for the other side before I wrap it up.

Anyway, had a question. Feel silly, been distracted. If you look back at picture one and two, you might notice something missin.

The PO had taken out the disk brake dust shields without replacing the thickness with a delete plate. Don't find a vendor that makes a delete. Do I need anything?

You need the dust shields plates or at least the ring thickness part.

I would want the dust shields in place to prevent weeping moly grease oil from blowing onto the calipers and rotors.

Just got off the phone with Marlin, they do not have any for the 80 series, just hilux and mini.
