I have been looking through the FAQs and the forum, but haven't found what I am looking for.

I have a 1968 FJ40 factory soft top, I have had it 10 years and it is pretty much stock. I just started a major rebuild including V8 swap, transmission/transfer case swap, 4 wheel disk brakes, power steering and a shackle reversal with 4 inch lift.

For the front disk brakes I have a disk brake front axle out of a 1978 FJ40. I want to rebuild it before installing but am a little confused about what needs rebuilt in these. Most searches bring back knuckle rebuilds, is that all there is to it, or are there other parts of the axle that need attention as well?

Since the axle is sitting in my garage and not sitting under an FJ40, it seems like the perfect time to do everything needed.

Front diffs usually dont see a lot of use. I would rebuild the knuckles, put some marlin axle seals in it, repack/replace the wheel bearings and run it. Unless chunks of metal come out the drain plug!?!?

X2. I have a '78 FJ40 w/ < 80K miles. Rebuilt the knuckles about a year ago. Knuckle rebuild kit, knuckle bearings, and Marlin seals from Cruiser Outfitters. Warn hub rebuild kit from SOR. Cleaned and repacked the wheel bearings. So far so good...

You could always use the time you've saved by installing an ARB.
