Help. I took my new 40 out to the local mud pit and almost stayed forever. When I went to engage the 4WD... Nothing happended. I had a friend check and see if the front drive shaft turned and it did, but the tires did not turn.

I got home and put the 40 on jack stands to see if maybe the wheels turned... and nothing. Drive shaft turn though.

Any ideas? I asked a pretty knowledgable drivetrain guys and he said maybe the spider gear is broken.

Your help i greatly appreciated.

Front axle

1 front hubs not turned to lock or not working

2 failure in birthfield joint or axle

3 blown differential

cheers;)

Your 40 is trying to tell you something... Mud is not your friend :)

My vote is the hubs not locked or not working

hubs X3.

To see if it is one or both lockouts: with the TC in N or 2WD, rotate one front tire (other on the ground) with the hub locked. If the lockout is engaging the front DS will rotate. Repeat other side.

Just because the dial is turning doesn't mean the internal collar is engaging. Remove, clean, inspect, regrease lightly and try again.
