I'm trying to figure out what this part is called and if anyone has ever tried to replace it. It sits inside the front axle housing (driver's side) behind the inner axle seal. It's damaged and I'm trying to figure out how to replace it.

It rotates and I think it can be pushed in towards the diff, but not sure what the replacement part would be called. Anyone?

The pic is too macro to me, I think I’m seeing the metal race the oil seal is part of.

Do you have new seals in hand so you know what I mean?

If you have a FAS rebuild kit, I’d think you could match diameters to something you have in hand.

It is an oil splash guard and axle guide to help prevent damage to the inner axle seal. It is technically a non serviceable part but some folks have talked about finding it floating around in the housing.

Check with @slow95z or @arcteryx to see if he has one out of a junk axle housing.

^this^

It is a guide/oil baffle that aids significantly with inner axle alignment during installation. It is not serviced. You buy an axle housing to get it. Or, try to find a way to remove one from a used housing without damaging it and then figure out a way to put it in the destination housing, in the right place, without damaging it.

It is very difficult to install the left side shaft when the guide is missing. It may be possible to feed a wire sling down through the bolt hole for the brake distribution block mount to help support the shaft when you are attempting to stab it.

The factory one goes in from the diff side, so not easy to service. Is yours loose in the housing? If not the axle install part would be pretty east to replicate. Get a freeze plug to fit the bore behind the seal, pop a hole in it a little bigger than the axle, and press it into the bore.

Thanks for the input and suggestion everyone! Much appreciated. Good option from @ Tools R Us ... will try that first. Next option would be to try to find someone with a junk axle housing per suggestion from @BILT4ME, but I think it might be too difficult to dislodge without damaging it. If so, last option is to find another axle housing (locked) and just replace the whole thing ... expensive.

@Deathvalleypaul , has them reasonable, and he is in SoCal too

If you can't find a freeze plug the correct OD to fit that inside bore like Tools R US suggested, or a replacement baffle from Mud member Death valley paul there is another option. Any local machine shop should be able to fab a thin metal baffle for you to press into that bore for a very reasonable fee. If you lived close to me I'd make one for you for free.

Does any one know the orientation of this part? Both mine were floating in my housing. I found some pics online that make me believe the wide end of the oval is oriented downward? Maybe this is the "guide" part of the piece. I have both knuckle balls off of the axle housing so instalation will be a breeze.
